(Concord College, UK)
This summer, with an invaluable help from ergo|education, I managed to enrol on English courses in one of the best summer school in England – Concord College.
The courses lasted for 3 weeks, which was perfect for me, because, by the end of that time period I’d learned, seen and experienced a fair amount of things, and it wasn’t long enough to make me feel homesick.
The courses lasted for 3 weeks, which was perfect for me, because, by the end of that time period I’d learned, seen and experienced a fair amount of things, and it wasn’t long enough to make me feel homesick. Courses are far from being the only thing this summer school has to offer. It includes a metric ton of recreational activities, trips to other cities and theme parks, various sports events and whatnot, and the best thing about it is the freedom of choice. Basically, apart from lessons and mandatory trips you can do whatever you want, wherever you want. If you’re old enough and your parents have given permission, then you’re even allowed to walk in the cities, where you go on trips, completely on your own.
As for the lessons themselves, needless to say, they were outstanding. Teachers are, obviously, professionals and they really put a lot of effort into making the lessons as entertaining and valuable as humanly possible. Personal approach, they’ve shown, helped a lot. At the very beginning of the course, we were given a test to determine our level of English and then we were split up into groups by age and said level. The English I’d been taught in school here in Latvia, maybe a little bit more than that, was more than enough to get into the advanced class (the best one) without any effort whatsoever.
Housing was exceptional; if you’re old enough, you get your own room, which is cleaned every working day. The food was mostly good, maybe with some rare exceptions. Trips were exciting. Overall, it was a blast.
If you’re considering going to a summer school, I definitely recommend Concord College.
